Ellmers Statement on Agreement to Enact Extension of Payroll Tax Relief

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement from her office in Washington this evening:

"This afternoon, Speaker Boehner addressed Republicans in the House of Representatives on an agreement reached with Senator Reid to extend the payroll tax cuts before the deadline at the end of this year. Senator Reid agreed to appoint conferees from the Senate to meet with us and work toward a full-year extension of these tax cuts. He also agreed to amend the legislative language to allow business owners and employers to process and withhold payroll taxation under the same accounting structure that is currently in place."

"The fight continues and the mission remains to turn around our economy and provide meaningful solutions that will create and protect jobs. Our bill in the House was already passed with the full year extension of the payroll tax cut and I will continue to work alongside my fellow conferees to secure those provisions and negotiate the other policies that must be addressed. I am honored to serve on this committee and will continue to do what it takes to protect our economy and the millions of Americans who rely on responsible action by their elected representatives."
