WASHINGTON – House Subcommittee on Healthcare and Technology Chairwoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement from her office in Washington this afternoon:

"I'm proud to announce today's successful repeal of the Medical Device Tax by the House of Representatives. This bipartisan bill strikes a major blow to another damaging provision in Obamacare and prevents healthcare costs from increasing on patients who need vital medical devices."

"Without this repeal, businesses and their employees would suffer from less revenue and stagnant wages. Entrepreneurs would see a sharp drop in investments for their technologies. Worse yet - millions of Americans would be deprived of new innovations that could lead to life-saving treatments, better care, and lower costs to our health care system."

"As we await the Supreme Court’s decision on Obamacare, I will continue to work tirelessly with my colleagues in the House to restore innovative and patient-centered care in America. Repealing this devastating tax is one step closer to doing just that."

This afternoon, the House of Representatives successfully passed H.R. 436 the “Protect Medical Innovation Act of 2011.” This proposal repeals the excise tax imposed by the president’s health care law on all medical devices. This bill enjoyed the bipartisan support of 240 co-sponsors, including over a dozen Democrats.
